Evans fulfilling lifelong dream

Untitled

AUBURN, Ala. | Rashaan Evans has watched the Under Armour All-American game his entire life.

He dreamed of playing in the event. Now, his dream will come true.

Evans, a 6-foor-3, 225-pound Rivals100 linebacker and son of former Auburn tailback Alan Evans, was presented with his Under Armour All-American jersey on Tuesday during a ceremony at his high school.

"It's real cool. When I was young, I always thought I wanted to be there. It's crazy that I get to play in the game that I've always wanted to play in. I'm trying to take it all in, but I'm definitely happy about it," Evans told AuburnSports.com.

"It's icing on the cake. The hard work pays off, I'm definitely honored and many kids don't have a chance to take part in this event. I'm going to take advantage of it."

Evans plays linebacker, defensive end, receiver and wildcat quarterback for his Auburn High School team, helping lead the Tigers to a 9-1 record and berth in the state playoffs.

Evans has recorded nearly 40 tackles, nine tackles for loss and 11 sacks this season, while forcing three fumbles and blocking one punt this season. Evans has also rushed for five touchdowns and caught three more touchdowns.

Auburn coach Tim Carter calls Evans a "do-everything" player.

"He's a tremendous athlete and more than that, the leadership he provides to our football team -- it's incredible what he means to our team," Carter said. "He can fit almost any team. He can play in a 3-4 scheme, he can play a rush end in the 4-3, he can be 250 pounds, he's very explosive."

Last year, Auburn High School produced Rivals100 linebacker Reuben Foster, who later won Defensive MVP of the Under Armour All-American game and signed with Alabama. Carter sees the same dynamic ability in Evans.

"He's as good as any. We were fortunate enough to have Reuben -- Rashaan has the same type of abilities and he's as good as anyone we've ever had," Carter said. "He's one of the hardest workers we've ever had. He always does a little extra. He doesn't take plays off, you have to treat him for exhaustion after the game because of all his roles. That says a lot about him.

Evans will join more talented players from Alabama like Rivals100 corner Marlon Humphrey, Rivals100 linebacker Tre Williams, Rivals100 running back Racean Thomas, Rivals100 athlete Ronnie Clark, Rivals250 center Joshua Casher and Rivals250 corner Stephen Roberts in the Under Armour All-American game.

"It's going to be real fun playing with those guys. I know most of them, or I've heard about them and the type athletes they are. It's going to be real fun, I'm going to enjoy that," Evans said.

Evans remains uncommitted and lists UCLA, Georgia, Alabama and Auburn as his four favorites. Evans has already officially visited UCLA, and will take his three remaining official visits when his senior season is finished.
