Adams out for year with broken foot

LAS VEGAS -- The locker room was supposed to be full of jubilation. Hugs, smiles and handshakes.

Instead, Larry Drew sat in a corner, tears streaming down his face. Shabazz Muhammad choked them back too. Kyle Anderson buried his face in his hands and the Wear twins couldn't even crack a smile.

UCLA's star freshman guard Jordan Adams broke his foot on the final play of Friday night's Pac-12 Tournament victory over Arizona.

He's done for the season.

"Just everything we've been through all season," Drew II said, fighting through tears and a stuffed nose, "it seems like we can't get a break."

UCLA officials announced late Friday night that Adams broke his fifth metatarsal in his right foot, and will not return to the court this season. He suffered a similar injury to the same foot back in high school.

"This is bad for us," Muhammad said. "We're going to the tournament, and we were feeling really confident. This is terrible."

Adams came into the Pac-12 Tournament averaging 15.2 points per game with 3.8 rebounds. He was the team's second-leading scorer, best free throw shooter, and, according to UCLA head coach Ben Howland, their best perimeter defender.

"It's tough," Drew II said. "But there's something about this team that we find ways to make things happen when it seems like all is lost."
