Guiser had a chance to check out Kent State

Over the last weekend, Kent State and head coach Darrell Hazell hosted a sizable group of high school juniors, hoping to position the Golden Flashes as the team to beat in the collective conscience of their visitors.

One of those who made the trip was Greenburg (Pa.) native Zach Guiser, a 6-foot-1, 195 pound safety from Central Catholic High School. He came away more than impressed by what he saw at Kent State.

"I liked it there," Guiser said of his visit. "The campus is really nice."

Prior to his visit to Kent State, Guiser received his first scholarship offer from the University of Buffalo, and he's expecting more to come his way soon, and realizes that one offer means his work might have just begun.

"It's just a huge relief knowing everything's paying off," Guiser said. "I've been really training relentlessly in the weight room, on the track, and on the field. I want to work on all aspects of my game. I particularly want to improve on my quickness, getting in and out of my breaks."

Aside from visiting Kent State for junior day, Zach has also made trips to check out Bowling Green, and of course, Buffalo.

Unfortunately for Guiser, he was unable to get to talk too much with Coach Hazell on his trip, and he's not sure yet about whether or not there will be a return trip to see the Golden Flashes.

"I haven't set any dates or anything for visits," Guiser said. "But the visit was just this weekend, so I haven't talked to them again yet"

For now, Guiser is spending his time focusing on improving his game, and being sure to pay attention to his other role, as a student.

"My mom's a teacher so she's very adamant about grades," Guiser said. "I have a 4.3 GPA and I plan on majoring in either psychology or journalism."

When asked what separates him from all the other great young athletes out there, Guiser was quick to point out what he thinks is his best attribute.

"Definitely my work ethic," Guiser said. "I learned early on that there are thousands of kids blessed with the same natural ability as me. It's what I do to enhance myself that sets me apart. I can guarantee that I will never be out worked in any way."
