Robinette's Change of Heart

Patton Robinette was all set to become a North Carolina Tar Heel Sunday.

And then he wasn't.

In a stunning reversal of fortunes for a pair of BCS programs, the 6-5, 200-pound Robinette effectively changed his mind, deciding to leave North Carolina and head back to his native Tennessee to enroll at Vanderbilt.

A source close to the UNC football program confirmed Robinette's switch Sunday afternoon.

Remarkably, we're told that Robinette had already moved into his dorm room and was taking care of enrollment paperwork on Sunday, but when the time came to sign the scholarship agreement to UNC, he wouldn't do it.

"He (Robinette) moved into his dorm and everything," our source told us. "When it came time for him to sign the scholarship agreement, he had a change of heart."

"It (UNC) just didn't feel right for me," Robinette said Sunday to the Knoxville News. "It's a great school, but my heart has been set on Nashville for a while now."

Robinette's loss for UNC is a big gain for Vanderbilt under head coach James Franklin, as the Commodores now land the Gatorade state player of the year in Tennessee in 2011, and a quarterback who led Maryville High School to back-to-back state titles the past two autumns.
