Get newcomers going

Nebraska will be relying on several new faces this season, and these early non-conference games are the perfect time to get them into a rhythm and to start gelling with the returning players in live action. The Huskers need guys like Bo Spencer, Dylan Talley and even one or all of their three freshmen to help carry the load in the scoring department, and a hot start tonight would definitely help set the tone moving forward into the rest of the season.
Own the paint

Brandon Ubel did a nice job in Nebraska's exhibition win over Doane on Monday of dominating the inside both offensively and defensively. While it was nice to see Ubel grow into a player NU can count on in the post, it needs to see more from guys like Jorge Brian Diaz and even Christopher Niemann, especially against such overmatched competition. With the status of center Andre Almeida up in the air for this season, the Huskers would feel much better about their post depth if more than Ubel showed up tonight.
Fill Jeter's shoes

One of the biggest concerns all off-season was how Nebraska would replace not only the production of former point guard Lance Jeter this season, but also the leadership he brought to the locker room and on the court. Spencer should be able to replace Jeter's numbers on offense, but the NU backcourt is going to have show it can replicate Jeter's intensity both as a defender and rebounder. The Huskers will also have to replace the way Jeter was able to kick start the transition game on any given play, as many times that was their best source of offense.

Head coach Doc Sadler on redshirting any of his three freshmen this season:

"Right now we're not planning on redshirting any of them. I always deal with freshmen that they get the majority of the say in what they want to do. I tell them where they're at right now as far as playing time is concerned in my opinion and if they're in the top eight or nine. Right now I don't know that any of them are. But then they'll be able to make a decision if they want to keep competing."
Junior guard Dylan Talley on playing 18 minutes in Monday's exhibition game against Doane:

"I felt I could've played more. My conditioning, after this full week of practice that I had last week, I feel like I pretty much got it back. I've been trying to put in some extra running when we're off and stuff like that. I feel like I can play more minutes if that's what (Sadler) wants."

Nebraska 76-52
