Interesting stats: Lucky 7 for Moniz
Each week during the college football season, we look at some statistics involving individuals and/or teams that we find intriguing. Here is this week's version:
Hawaii QB Bryant Moniz tossed seven TD passes in last week's win over FCS member UC Davis – and all seven came in the first half. That tied the NCAA record held by San Diego State's Dennis Shaw (1969 vs. New Mexico State), Florida's Terry Dean (1994 vs. New Mexico State) and Florida's Doug Johnson (1997 vs. Central Michigan). Moniz finished 30-of-40 for 424 yards and didn't play in the second half. The record for one game is 11 by Houston's David Klingler in 1990 against FCS member Eastern Washington.
Bowling Green true freshman TB Anthon Samuel scored on a 96-yard run in the Falcons' upset of Miami (Ohio). It was the longest run in the nation this season and one of three to cover 90-plus yards. Samuel, from powerhouse Miami Pace, has rushed for 428 yards in four games. Bowling Green was last in the nation in rushing last season, finishing with just 754 yards as a team, so Samuel is more than halfway there.
Our weekly Case Keenum update: He now has 119 career TD passes; that's 15 shy of tying the NCAA career record owned by former Texas Tech QB Graham Harrell. Keenum also has 1,228 completions and 15,120 passing yards, putting him well within reach of the NCAA career records of 1,403 (Harrell) and 17,072 (Hawaii's Timmy Chang), respectively.

Three teams ran at least 90 plays this past weekend, and 15 teams have reached that plateau this season, led by Oklahoma's 100 against Tulsa on Sept. 3. Oklahoma State (95 against Texas A&M), Arizona (92 against Oregon – in a loss) and Middle Tennessee (90 against Troy – in a loss) reached 90 plays this past weekend. Houston finished one play short, which would've made the Cougars the first team to reach the plateau twice this season.
Only three quarterbacks have attempted at least 60 passes in a game this season, and two did it this past weekend. West Virginia's Geno Smith threw it 65 times, a national high, in a loss to LSU, and Oklahoma State's Brandon Weeden had 60 attempts in a win over Texas A&M. The other is Troy's Corey Robinson, who had 63 attempts against Arkansas on Sept. 17.
A cool stat from cfbstats.com is that Memphis already has allowed 76 plays of at least 10 yards this season. That's the most in the nation – but just three more than Auburn. Auburn yielded a surprisingly high 188 plays of 10-plus yards last season, 20th-most nationally. TCU allowed the fewest last season, at 102.
