Auburn offers another Georgia DB

The pursuit of another top rated defensive back class for Auburn continues for the 2012 class, with the Tigers' most recent offer going out to another Georgia stand out.

Carrollton (Ga.) three-star corner Jonathan Jones holds close to 15 offers now, with his most recent being an offer he was anxiously awaiting.

"I had camped at Auburn the week before and did well, and then they talked to my coach shortly after and offered," Jones said. "It's an offer I really wanted, and when it came I was excited. I felt like they really wanted me and I was someone they looked at hard.

"I could see myself playing there."

Auburn joined the likes of Stanford, Georgia Tech, and a host of other schools that Jones said are recruiting him equally hard.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound prospect said Auburn defensive backs coaches Phillip Lolley and Tommy Thigpen are recruiting him to Auburn, and he appreciates their low key approach with him early on.

"They are really down to earth coaches," Jones said.

Jones attended Auburn's first summer mini camp on June 12th, and credited that performance as a deciding factor in landing an offer.

"I think I did really well and impressed the coaches enough for them to offer me," said Jones.

Prior to the camp, Jones had visited Auburn twice before, taking in a game and a spring practice. Jones said his comfort level with Auburn is high after a third visit this summer.

"I like the atmosphere, it's a great college experience, the campus is nice, and it seems like it would be a great place to be," Jones said.

Jones said he remains heavily interested in Auburn, and will likely place the Tigers in his top five when he does get things narrowed down. Jones' plan is to have a top five before his senior season starts, and make a decision during the season.

Jones joins Auburn commit Joshua Holsey and Geno Smith as top Auburn defensive back targets from the state of Georgia. Jones also said he recently talked to another Auburn commit, JaQuay Williams.

Jones said both Holsey and Williams are giving him advice and trying to help him make his decision.

"They are trying to help me along and help me make my decision and follow them to Auburn," Jones said.

Jones plans for the rest of the summer is to visit Tennessee and Mississippi State, and may visit Georgia Tech as well. Jones also plans to visit Auburn again in July.
