OL leaves program

Redshirt freshman Brent Benedict is no longer a member of the Georgia football team.

On Sunday, head coach Mark Richt announced that the offensive lineman from the Bolles School in Jacksonville was leaving the program for personal reasons.

The school announced Benedict's decision in an email to team beat writers.

Benedict could not immediately be reached for comment.

Benedict spent last year recovering from major knee surgery after tearing his ACL, MCL and PCL with nerve damage during October of his senior year.

He was able to participate in spring practice and was listed as the top backup at right guard.

Benedict's decision leaves Georgia with just 15 scholarship offensive linmen after A.J. Harmon's decision to leave for "personal reasons" over a month ago. One, incoming freshman Xzavier Ward, is not expected to play after undergoing ACL surgery earlier this year.

One other offensive lineman, redshirt sophomore Dallas Lee did not practice during the spring according to Richt due to an "asthma-like" condition, while redshirt sophomore Austin Long practiced little due to injury. Both players are expected to be ready for the start of fall drills.
