Wheeler picks up UT offer; talks favorites

Recruiting has been moving at a breakneck pace for Dominique Wheeler of late, with the Crocket wide receiver picking up scholarship offers from around the Lone Star State. On Sunday, Wheeler added one more.

During a junior day visit to Texas, the explosive athlete was formally offered a scholarship by Mack Brown and the Longhorn staff, putting Texas on a list of offers that includes Baylor, TCU and Texas A&M.

I talked to coach (Mack) Brown. He showed us everything in his office and told us what it all stands for. That was cool," Wheeler said. "He just came out upfront and said he wanted to offer me. That was about it. He told me about the position and things like that, where I'd be playing."

A dynamic playmaker with the ball in his hands, Wheeler's highlight video is one of the more impressive of any player in the state of Texas. Mack Brown thinks so as well.

"He told me when he saw the first play, that he didn't need to see any more," Wheeler said. "He told me he'll look at the next two plays but he said he saw enough after one. I guess I'm a three-play guy and that's really good."

Indeed it is. The 6-2, 176-pound Wheeler has now visited Texas, Texas A&M and TCU and he's scheduled to attend a junior day at Baylor next weekend. Right now, the three schools he's seen in person are atop his list.

"Those are my top three right now - A&M, TCU and Texas. I would say it would probably be TCU, Texas and then Texas A&M," Wheeler said.

Ranked No. 6 on the most recent Lone Star Recruiting Top 100, Wheeler rushed for 1,164 yards and 16 TDs on just 71 carries as a junior. He added 497 yards and 5 TDs passing and he scored TDs on 5 of his 6 receptions (153 total receiving yards).

The following are his comments on his there early favorites:

TCU - "I like how they play. They have a good football program, a good academic program. I just like their style of football."

Texas - "I was talking to the offensive coordinator (Bryan Harsin). They have a new offense, things like that. He was showing me how they're going to play, they're going to do some stuff like Boise State. He said they would try to use me to the maximum of my ability. Texas is known like a good football program and a good academic program too."

Texas A&M - "They're a spread team, they throw the ball a lot. Mike Sherman really talked about the academics, said he'll treat you like you're his son and his family."
