Kerrigan, Wiggs honored

To the surprise of no one, Purdue cleaned up in this weekend's Big Ten Player-of-the-Week awards.

In as close to a no-brainer decision as you'll find, defensive end Ryan Kerrigan - already the Walter Camp Award winner for this weekend, citing him as national defensive player-of-the-week - was named the league's defensive honoree.

Against Ohio State, Kerrigan sacked Terrelle Pryor three times, forced two fumbles and led Purdue with nine tackles.

Among specialists, kicker Carson Wiggs was honored for making 4-of-5 field goals, good from 32, 52, 55 and 49 yards.

He also punted three times for an average of 42.3 yards after replacing Chris Summers mid-game.

Offensively quarterback Joey Elliott - Purdue's nominee for the award - was passed over, as Michigan State's Blair White and Indiana's Ben Chappell shared the honor.

Elliott completed 31-of-50 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns against the Buckeyes, the best team in the Big Ten.
