Davis makes the call for Iowa

Finding big defensive tackles is always a chore for the Hawkeyes, who have made their reputation over the years by building up prospects to fill the position. Their latest commitment will not need much building however. At 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds, Carl Davis is ready made for a spot in the middle of the defensive line.

After thinking about it overnight, the Sterling Heights, Michigan native made his verbal pledge to Coach Ferentz this morning.

"I've committed to Iowa. I made my commitment this morning," Davis said on Sunday afternoon after returning home. "Coach Ferentz was really excited. He was telling me that they usually don't get big guys like me. He said that the last big guy that they had was Colin Cole. He said usually they have to develop guys because they aren't my size coming in."

Davis was already familiar with Iowa City, having spent time there this summer with his uncle, former men's basketball assistant coach Rich Walker, who is now working in the Iowa athletic department. Davis said that seeing Kinnick Stadium last night was a big selling point that helped push him over the top.

"The atmosphere was great at Kinnick last night and the game was a lot of fun. The fans were going nuts and I could definitely see myself playing there," he said.

After the game, Davis spent time with one of his hosts, defensive lineman Mike Daniels, who answered all of his remaining questions about the Iowa program.

Davis was considering scholarship offers from Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Kansas, among many others, but he says that his recruitment is over after making his commitment.

"I feel like being committed means something. It is kind of like being married. I guess that is how I feel. I don't need to see anywhere else. I feel real comfortable with Iowa."

Davis said with recruiting done, he can focus on his senior season. His high school team is 7-0 this year and he wants to win a state title this season.
