Old Adages Working for Sooners
They say that the early bird gets the worm, 'they' also say it's better to be lucky than good.
It seems that in the case of McDonough (Ga.) Union Grove safety Avery Walls both tired old clichés seem to be working in the favor of Oklahoma.
That's because when the Sooners extended a scholarship offer early this week they were not only the first school to do as much they also were lucky enough to almost accidentally play host to 5-foot-10, 180-pound defensive back prospect during the Schuman Ultimate100 national combine this summer.
Walls, fresh off the news of his offer can hardly contain his excitement.
"I've been real fortunate in the past few days, I'm feeling pretty great," Walls said. "My parents and I put a film together and sent it to them. Last Thursday my coach told me to give coach (David) White and coach Bobby Jack Wright a call and when I called them. We were talking about how I liked the campus when I came there.
"All of the sudden they said that I had earned a scholarship and for about 10 seconds I paused because I didn't know what to say."
