Evaluating No. 2 East Mississippi
The town of Scooba, Miss., may not have much but it is home to the second ranked junior college football team in the entire country.
East Mississippi Community College head coach Buddy Stephens has done a great job of mixing local talent with some outstanding national talent to put together one of the top JUCO programs in the nation.
I finally got the opportunity to travel down and see just how talented the Lions are last week and left very impressed watching them dominate Holmes 41-14.
It was actually the first junior college football game that I have been to but with all the local players on the roster I felt like I was back at a high school game. There are 24 players on the Lions roster that I have covered during their prep careers so it was good to catch up with some of them.
You can't talk about EMCC without mentioning their quarterback Randall Mackey. He is no doubt deserving of his four-star rating and the No. 4 overall JUCO prospect. He accounted for 426 yards of total offense and five touchdowns against Holmes completing 30-of-41 passing for 407 yards and four touchdowns. On the year he has connected on 68.2-percent of his throws for 702 yards with eight touchdowns and two interceptions added another 175 yards and a score on the ground.
