Mullen talking Auburn

As far as last season's 3-2 loss to Auburn is concerned, it might as well be ancient history to Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen.

Mullen, like many others around the nation, tuned in to watch the low scoring debacle between the two schools while he was the offensive coordinator at Florida.

"I remember watching and that both teams had opportunities to win," Mullen said. "Any game that's a close game like that, as an offensive coach watching, you see what opportunities are there. One of the things I do remember was Mississippi State had opportunities in that game and didn't take advantage of it in the kicking game with some great field position."

But as far as the 2008 game having an effect on their matchup in Auburn on Saturday, Mullen is skeptical and doesn't place any stock in it with both schools hiring new head coaches in the offseason.

"They are a whole new program and we're a new program," Mullen said. "That's such old news to me at this point with both programs going in different directions."

Mullen earned his first victory as a head coach this past weekend with a 45-7 rout of instate opponent Jackson State. The rookie head coach was blown away by the atmosphere at Davis Wade Stadium where 54,232 fans filed in for his debut.
