Bulldogs prep for Thursday scrimmage

Mississippi State will hold their first scrimmage of the fall on Thursday so Dan Mullen pulled back the reigns and eased up on his team today right?

Wrong.

Mullen's practice regimen is still the same working out twice on Wednesday with a full pad practice in the morning to be followed up with a practice in shoulder pads and shorts in the afternoon.

Mullen was pleased with the morning session taking advantage of the overcast skies to get a much needed break from the sweltering sun.

"It was a good morning," Mullen said. "They came out and worked hard today. Maybe a little cloud cover doesn't hurt the cause because they were tired and sore it maybe wasn't quite as hot. I was pleased.

"We will be in helmets and shoulder pads this afternoon. Besides not wearing pants, lighter wouldn't be the word for what we are going to put them through this afternoon."

During Thursday's initial scrimmage of the fall, Mullen intends to find some playmakers on both sides of the ball. It will be the first time the Bulldogs went full-speed live contact for an extended scrimmage session.
