Chippewas go to work in practice
With the September 5th game against Arizona just weeks away, the Central Michigan football team continues to work at camp. Today, ChippewaCountry was able to attend practice and get a first hand look at the newcomers and provide updates on the returning players.
*Kito Poblah continues to shine at receiver. He has made some incredible catches and once he becomes more consistent, CMU has a deadly three wide receiver set with him Anderson and Brown.
*Ronnie Kennedy saw time returning punts.
*Eric Fraser is back on the field and ran some reps at safety. He has the maroon jersey on and is cleared for full contact.
*Kirkston Edwards had the green jersey on and was held out of practice. LaVarus Williams started at corner in his place.
*Dannie Bolden made some real impressive plays in the secondary and was giving wide receivers fits with his tight coverage.
*John Carr made a great read on Ryan Radcliff and nearly picked a ball off in the flats.
*Walk-on freshman Daniel Jackson is wearing #91. He has the size, but saw limited reps today.
*Among the players who did not practice today: Shamari Benton, Bobby James, Jeff Maddux, Sean Murnane, Kirkston Edwards, Frank Zombo, and Bryan Anderson was limited. None of the injuries are thought to be serious.
*Adam Fenton spent a lot of time running with the second team defense and looked good in pass coverage.
*A.J. Westendorp is built real well, but has a lot of work to do on his mechanics and throwing motion. He stayed after practice with coaches to work on his footwork.
*Both Aaron McCord and Cody Pettit saw time with the first team defensive tackle unit. They each showed flashes, although Pettit was pancaked by guard Matt Kanitz on one occasion.
*Adam Schneid and Eric Fisher both took some lumps as second team tackles. Caesar Rodriguez beat Schneid for a sack on one play as he practiced for the first time. The second team offensive line struggled as a unit today.
*Jon Czerwienski was not present and the greyshirt rumors are confirmed. Same with Davon Muse.
*Matt Kanitz looked real good at guard and he has put on some solid weight.
*The wide receivers as a whole looked impressive. Antonio Brown continues to emerge as a leader and Cody Wilson just keeps making plays. Sean Skergan has also put on some good weight and looks like a linebacker.
