CMU upgrades facilities

The Central Michigan athletic department has been busy upgrading facilities and increasing their marketing power. Already CMU has added some maroon to Kelly/Shorts Stadium and renovated the locker rooms. Also under construction presently is a shop inside Kelly/Shorts, which will be located to the left of the bleachers on the side closest to the Student Activity Center (SAC) and IAC. The store will sell CMU apparel and related items.

CMU is also replacing the Astroturf inside the IAC with Fieldturf, an investment that is costing CMU almost $750,000. All of these improvements are miniscule compared to the recently approved Events Center. The Events Center will become a multi-use facility that upgrades the SAC and Rose Arena and provides wrestling and basketball with their own practice facilities. At an estimated $21 million dollars, The Events Center is the "last piece of the puzzle for CMU athletics," as CMU Athletic Director Dave Heeke put it.

CMU has also continued to increase its marketing power in the state. Last year quarterback Dan LeFevour was featured on a billboard outside of Comerica Park, and once again #13 is facing thousands of sports fans as CMU unveiled an updated billboard.

Look for more on the facility updates very soon.
