Van Sloten ready to make the transition

Moving to Iowa City for college will not be the only transition for Decorah native Brett Van Sloten this summer, as he will also be making the adjustment to playing offensive line for the Hawkeyes. As he gets ready to begin workouts with his teammates, we caught up with Van Sloten to talk about the transition, his upcoming freshman year, and much more.

Q: Have you already graduated and everything?

VAN SLOTEN: Yeah, on May 17. We had graduation and all the festivities that day. After that, we had state track and that kind of officially ended my high school career.

Q: What was it like down at state track competing against Drew Clark and some of those guys?

VAN SLOTEN: Drew is one good shot put thrower and discus too. He proved that he was the best in the state. Throwing 64-feet, he's incredible.

Q: How did you think you did?

VAN SLOTEN: Discus didn't go so well, but in the shot put, I was happy I ended the way that I did. I scratched one throw on the discus that was probably around 165', so that was frustrating.

Q: When are you headed to Iowa City for workouts?

VAN SLOTEN: I report on the first day, June 8.
