NJ prospect high on SU
Edison (NJ) Bishop Ahr offensive center Brandon Vitabile did not have any scholarship offers until recently. The first offer came from Syracuse and that was followed by Vanderbilt. The offer from the Orange however is sticking out right now.
"Syracuse offered me April 13th," Vitabile said. "I was surprised because I knew that they were interested, but it showed me that they have a true interest. It means a lot that they were the first team to come out and offer me. And coming from a coaching staff with such notoriety means a lot and it holds a lot of weight in my mind because they were the first school to offer."
Vitabile, 6-foot-1, 293 pounds has made a few trips to other programs during the start of this recruiting process, but never picked up an offer. Now with the offer from Syracuse on the table what do the Orange like about the prospect?
"Well, they told me that the new offense they will be running will be built around athletic and tough linemen and that is the description that I fit. I think I could fit into their offense and I could be one of the best lineman with Coach Adkins as my coach."
During the last week of spring practice the Garden State product took a visit to Syracuse and he soon had mutual interest in Syracuse.
"It was real nice. The campus was real nice, it did get a bit chilly up there. The campus was beautiful it was all closed in and all of the people were nice. There is a lot of space and there is a lot to do in the town. You are in a great area because you are pretty close to like five major cities, so you can't really complain."
After receiving a scholarship there was one other item that stuck out on the visit for Vitabile.
"I really liked the weight room it was really nice. The weight room was one of the best that I have seen and I have been to six colleges so far."
Now that the offer is in hand and a visit to the Big East program has been taken Vitabile is impressed with the Orange.
"They are one of the top schools in the country and they have the combination of football and academics. You can't really find any better than that because they have all the majors you could wish for and it is recognized all over the world."
Other than Syracuse there are a few different schools who are showing interest in Vitabile.
"I got an offer from Vanderbilt last week when I went down to Tennessee. Next week Pittsburgh, Purdue, Central Florida, Wake Forest, and Georgia Tech are coming to visit me."
With two offers being extended his way and a handful of schools showing interest does he have a top five or an leaders at this point?
"Not really, but Syracuse and Vanderbilt are at the top now just because they have offered. I am looking at everything and how everything plays out. The fact that Syracuse offered first has a lot of weight to it and it will have a special spot in my mind and I will remember that."
When it comes to a decision Vitabile does not have any plans for a commitment soon. He is just looking for the school that is right for him.
