White adds immediate impact

Chris White was expected to transfer into Mississippi State and make an immediate impact at linebacker following a stellar career at Gulf Coast Community College.

The 6-foot-4, 235-pounder hasn't disappointed, starting at right outside linebacker for the Bulldogs since day one of spring practice.

"We certainly hope (White) can be one of those guys that can make an impact on defense," said head coach Dan Mullen. "He had a great offseason too and a lot of that is because of his offseason work ethic. When we recruited him and talked to him we said 'hey, you don't have four years to make a career here. You have to make an impact immediately and he bought into that from day one in the weight room."

White has showcased his talents this spring will strong showings in the Bulldogs three scrimmages including a 41-yard interception return for a touchdown this past Saturday.

"It's been going good," White said. "We've been working hard. We work hard everyday just trying to learn the defense so I can play full speed so I don't have to think about it."

White along with Jamar Chaney and K.J. Wright should makeup one of the most talented linebacking corps in the Southeastern Conference next season. That unit is headed up by new defensive coordinator Carl Torbush.
