McCabe excited about Iowa offer
Class of 2010 prospect Zach McCabe has had his recruiting on the backburner a little bit as he focused on leading Sioux City Heelan to a state championship this season. With that goal accomplished, things are starting to heat up now as the 6-foot-6, 201-pound McCabe landed his first major conference scholarship offer this week from the in-state Hawkeyes.
Iowa is the fourth basketball program to offer, joining Butler, Northern Iowa, and Indiana State. He also has an offer for football from South Florida and continues to hear from several schools on the gridiron as well.
Teaming up with future Hawkeye Brennan Cougill, McCabe helped lead Heelan to a 25-2 record this season, which ended with a state championship in Class 3A. A versatile player who can play inside or out, he finished the year averaging 15.9 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game. The junior also shot 43.1% from three-point range and 79.0% from the free throw line.
