Team SoFLA 7on7 practice report
On windy Sunday afternoon in Boca Raton, FL Team SoFLA got in their first practice session for an up coming 7-on-7 tournament in Tampa. We take a look at some of the standouts and surprises on the field.
Quinton Dunbar - Miami Booker T. Washington High School - Wide Receiver
Dunbar a recent University of Miami commit is so smooth running routes. At 6 foot 3, 170-pounds Dunbar will have to get stronger but his upside is through the roof. He is one of the top wide receivers in the state of Floirda.
Shawn Corker - Cardinal Gibbons High School - Wide Receiver
The 6 foot 1, 183-pound Corker had the play of the day making a one handed grab in the back of the end zone. Corker has 5 offers but more should be on the way in the coming weeks. He is one of the fastest rising prospects in South Florida.
Kelvin Benjamin - Glades Central High School - Wide Receiver
The 6 foot 6, 210-pound class of 2011 prospect was the biggest surprise on Sunday. During the season Benjamin ran mostly fade routes, but on Sunday he showed excellent route running. Benjamin will be one of the most heavily recruited prospects next year.
Jabari Price - Pompano Ely High School - Cornerback
The 5 foot 11, 170-pound Price will probably be the next heavily recruited corner back from Pompano Ely. He was very good in drills and performed well in one on ones. Price recently ran a 4.48 forty yard dash at the Miami NUC.
Tavares Crawford - Glades Central High School - Cornerback & WR
The 5 foot 10, 165-pound Crawford came in without much hype but he showed he belonged right away. Crawford has the potential to be a lock down corner in college.
Leon Shorter - Ft. Pierce Westwood High School - WR
Shorter is every bit of 6 foot 3, maybe taller. He showed good speed in the drills, but struggled a bit with his hands on the day. Shorter has one early offer from Louisville.
Dion Hanks - Miami Edison High School - Cornerback
The 5 foot 10, 170-pound Hanks showed excellent coverage skills during one on ones. He is another solid prospect from Miami Edison that doesn't get much hype.
Issac Dixon - Miami Pace High School - Linebacker
Dixon was the only linebacker out there on Sunday. He showed good mobility in the 7 on 7 portion of practice. He is a little undersized at 5 foot 11, 185-pounds.
Terrell Williams - Boca Raton High School - Cornerback and Wide Receiver
The 5 foot 9, 175-pound Williams showed that he has excellent feet at cornerback and enough speed to get deep as a wide receiver. He will be the top prospect at Boca Raton HS this fall.
Garrett Smith - Cardinal Gibbons High School - Cornerback
Smith continued his solid play this spring. After running a 4.48 forty yard dash at the Miami NUC the previous weekend, Smith showed good coverage skills getting an interception in one on one drills.
Jabari Gorman - Miami Pace High School - Safety
This class of 2011 standout came out a day after playing in his basketball team's regional final loss. Gorman showed good feet in pass coverage and good hips while also working out some at cornerback.
Johnnie Simon - Palm Beach Lakes High School - Safety
Simon has played a lot of linebacker in high school so it was interesting to see how he reacted to playing safety. He was solid in he 7 on 7 portion, nearly knocking a wide receiver coming over the middle.
Rakeem Cato - Miami Springs High School - Quarterback
The 6 foot, 165-pound 2011 prospect Cato threw for over 1900 yards as a sophomore and made 2nd team All-Dade County last fall. Cato has a strong arm which he displayed on Sunday.
Emanuel Perez - Pahokee High School - Quarterback
Perez showed he can spin it at the Miami National Underclassmen Combine last weekend winning the QB MVP. On Sunday he showed a strong arm, but needed to continue working on his touch.
Normando Harris - Miami Pace High School - Cornerback
Harris at 6 foot 1, 172-pounds is a big physical cornerback. Harris just finished off his wrestling season and is slowly adding weight for spring ball.
Peniel Jean - Palm Beach Central High School - Safety
Jean was working early at cornerback and struggled in coverage. When he moved to safety he looked much more comfortable.
A few other prospects are supposed to be joining Team SoFLA in the coming weeks as they prepare for their tournament.
