Big back picks up offer from A&M
Flower Mound (Texas) Marcus junior running back Stephen Hopkins had been getting letters from Texas A&M since the middle of his junior campaign. However, he wasn't sure until a couple of weeks ago about how interested the Aggies were in him.
The 6-foot, 220-pound bruising tailback had a chance to attend a junior day in College Station. He was able to speak with head coach Mike Sherman and his position coach Randy Jordan and felt like things went well. However, that was confirmed on Tuesday when he received a written offer from A&M.
"I went to their junior day in January and I got to talk to coach Sherman" said Hopkins. "He didn't talk to me about an offer. He just asked questions and got to know me. I got a couple of letters after the junior day thanking me for coming. But then coach Jordan came down to our school a couple of weeks ago and talked to my coaches. That's when I knew he was pretty interested in me."
On Tuesday, he found out that A&M had sent scholarship papers to his high school. Hopkins says he was pleasantly surprised by the offer from the Aggie staff.
