Shumpert speaks on State visit

William Shumpert came to Starkville the past weekend expecting to meet a lot of new people on his official visit to Mississippi State.

But with the Bulldogs dominating in-state recruiting, Shumpert saw the same familiar faces after he arrived on campus.

"The visit went good," Shumpert said. "I thought I was going to go down there and meet some people I didn't know. But when I got there I already knew everybody. I played with almost all of them in that Mississippi-Alabama All-Star game."

The trip was not all fun and games for the 6-foot-0, 238-pound fullback from Fulton, Miss. Shumpert already started breaking down some film getting ready for the fall.

"The visit exceeded my expectations," Shumpert said. "I got a chance to meet all the coaches. I got a chance to talk to Coach (Reed) Stringer. We had a film session and he showed us some of the positions we may play down there."

The three-star prospect highlighted that his favorite parts of the visit were attending the men's basketball game against Vanderbilt and hanging out with some of the current players. Shumpert's host for the weekend was Quentin Saulsberry.

The basketball game was highlighted by a standing ovation by the fans at Humphrey Coliseum.
