AU commit Stallworth looking around

When Tommy Tuberville announced his resignation last month, it sent shockwaves throughout the Auburn recruiting class.

A number of commits immediately backed off the Tigers. Three-star wide receiver Travante Stallworth remains committed but has begun looking around.

"When it first happened it was a shock," Stallworth said. "I called my mom and told her and she was shocked. I didn't expect that to happen. I don't really know what when down there really. I have spoken with the new coach (Gene Chizik). We had a few conversations. One of the coaches called me (Saturday) to tell me that they are trying to find some coaches to hire and that they are still excited about me. I'm just going to wait and see what kind of offensive coordinator they get and see what kind of offense they run."

A school that went through a similar change is Mississippi State when Sylvester Croom resigned at the season's end. Now with new head coach Dan Mullen bringing the spread offense to Starkville, Stallworth is rumored to be one of their targets in the coming days. But the 5-foot-10, 180-pounder has yet to hear from the Bulldog coaching staff.

So how does Stallworth feel about State?

"I think they have a pretty good program going," Stallworth said. "Sylvester Croom brought it back going to a bowl game last year. He really didn't do so good this year but the coach that they've got now I know that he will probably be a good coach. He was the offensive coordinator at Florida and they are going to bring the spread there so that should be real exciting."

Other schools have also come calling for Stallworth's signature. Michigan and South Carolina have joined the list. He has three visits lined up during the month of January. Stallworth will visit Michigan on Jan. 9, South Carolina on Jan. 16 and Auburn on Jan. 23.

Stallworth committed to the Tigers in mid-June and currently also holds an offer from Tulsa.
