Two new schools on Harvey's radar

Prior to the start of the 2008 season, Lancaster (Texas) High School was billed as one of the most talented teams in the state with one of the most talented defensive backfields in the country. Friday night, the Tigers lost in the playoffs ending their season but not before living up to those hefty expectations and completing a very strong season.

One integral piece of the talent in Lancaster is cornerback/cornerback/athlete, Phillip Harvey.

"It's been hard," Harvey said of the expectations. "Everybody keeps trying to push us but they always get shut down in the end. I have been doing pretty good this season. I have made some pretty big plays. I think I have improved a lot on my tackling. I have had a lot of big hits this year, along with a lot of passes defensed."

Harvey is one of several highly recruited prospects on the Lancaster team. Along with wide receiver Skyler Scott, John Simpson and Freeman Kelley, as well as linebacker Cordarius Golston, Harvey teams with three other major college prospects in the secondary alone. Only Kerry Lewis (Minnesota) and Kelley (Tulsa) have committed.

"It's a possibility that we would all like to go to the same places and play in college," he said. "One of my teammates (Lewis) is committed to Minnesota. Minnesota has been really interested in me but I don't really want to go that far right now. Staying close to home is a big deal to me. I haven't really talked to any other schools in Texas."

Two new schools have been expressing an interest in Harvey though no new offers have come his way.

"Houston and TCU have been talking to me a lot," he said. "I am really interested in those schools. I just talked to TCU today and I talked to Houston last week."

Though Harvey hasn't scheduled any visits yet, now that his season is over, he may have more opportunities for travel.

"I plan on going to TCU pretty soon," he said. "I'm looking to see how they play, what their defense looks like. I don't really plan on taking any visits to Oregon or Iowa. I am not sure when I am going to take a visit to Houston."
