Smith says his WVU visit 'opens eyes'
Four-star quarterback Eugene Smith returned from West Virginia Sunday with "my eyes opened," he said, following a weekend excursion where he and two other Miramar (Fla.) teammates took in the sights and sounds of Mountaineer football.
"It was crazy. We went to the basketball game, and they started chanting my name. They held up signs saying 'We want Gino! We want Gino!'," said the 6-2, 173-pound Elite Eleven quarterback for coach Damon Cogdell.
The "basketball game" was an exhibition between Bobby Huggins' WVU team and visiting NAIA power Mountain State at the Coliseum on Saturday afternoon. That evening, he, teammates Stedman Bailey and Morel Pierre, and a cast of visitors which included committed wideouts Deon Long and Logan Heastie were transported to Milan Puskar Stadium where the football Mountaineers were edged in overtime by Cincinnati.
