Future Frog Tracker: Week 6
It's that time again. District games crank back up this weekend and we're here to give you the rundown on where your Future Frogs will be on display. Some of the 2009 class are enjoying great success thus far this season, others, not so much. Here are this weeks matchups.
#1 Maud (5-0) vs. Hawkins (1-4)
The "Maud Squad" keeps dominating. Ranked as the #1 team in 1A in the state, the Cardinals are wearing their opponents out this season. James Dunbar, Bryant House and Ray Burns help form the most intimidating class 1A team in recent memory. They will square off with an overmatched Hawkins squad Friday night at 7:30 PM in Maud.
#9 Copperas Cove (5-0) vs. Bryan (3-1)
Coach Welch says that this is the best team he has seen so far this year. Bryan comes into this weekend's showdown with Copperas Cove hoping to slow down the potent Bulldawg juggernaut. TCU commits, Tanner Brock and Josh Boyce will help lead the charge against what Coach Welch says is a "much bigger" team. Bryan averages 285 across the offensive line with C.C averaging about 255 on the D-line. The battle will be won in the trenches. Kickoff is set for Friday @ 7:30 PM in Copperas Cove.
Sherman (4-1) vs. Frisco Centennial (4-1)
Waymon James is on fire. He leads an explosive Bearcat attack against a stout Centennial squad. James will look to lead the offense with his breathtaking running style. Centennial will combat James' skills with Kentucky commit, Ryan Mossakowski. Kickoff is set for Friday at 7:30 PM @ Frisco Centennial.
Brownwood (2-3) vs. Abilene Wylie (3-2)
Coming off of an impressive 50-30 win over Manor a week ago, Casey Pachall and his Lion teammates will try to impose their will on the offensive side of the ball. Moving down to 3A has proved quite a challenge to the Brownwood squad. After a difficult start that saw them lose to Stephenville, Liberty Hill and La Vega, the Lions have turned things around. The defense will need to step up and not give up so many points this week. Kickoff is set for Friday at 7:30 PM @ Abilene Wylie.
Waco Midway (4-1) vs. Waco University (1-4)
With rivalry games, you never know just how they'll turn out but the Panthers should win this game going away. Ty horn has made a habit out of abusing defenders this year and he will look to inflict as much pain as possible Friday night at 7:30 PM. Midway will host rival University and it should be a brawl.
Bellaire Episcopal (3-1) vs. St. Johns School (0-4)
This could get ugly. Bellaire Episcopal enters the game on a roll and John Wooldridge is paving the way for the offense. The 6'5" 290 pound offensive lineman has looked impressive thus far and he should have his way with whoever is forced to line up across from him tonight. Kickoff is set for 7 PM tonight @ St. Johns.
Brenham (1-3) vs. Magnolia West (2-2)
After finally getting into the win column, the Cubs will look to push their record to 2-3 with a victory over West. Safety prospect, Trenton Thomas will lead the Cubs defense in this showdown. As the leading tackler on his team, Thomas has lived up to the pre-season hype. Kickoff is set for Friday night at 7:30 PM. The Cubs will travel to Magnolia West.
#17 Trinity Valley C.C. (4-1) vs. #6 Blinn College (4-1)
The most recent commitment to Caoch Gary Patterson and his staff came from Malcolm Williams. The talented safety prospect and his teammates will look to upend a talented Buccaneer team. Kickoff is set for Saturday at 3PM in Athens, TX.
W.F. Rider (3-3) vs. The Colony (4-2)
This game was played last night in Wichita Falls with Rider prevailing 41-15. After a tough start to the season, the Raiders have reeled off three straight wins and have taken control of their district. We will have stats for Jurell Thompson in next week's Commitment Performances feature.
Dallas Jesuit (2-3) vs. Wylie (4-1)
Eric Tausch and his Ranger teammates will tustle with a very good Wylie team. After knocking off Plano East last week, the Rangers are looking to make it two in a row. Tausch has been rock solid on the offensive line this year and looks like yet another great pickup for Coach Patterson and his staff. Kickoff is set for Friday at 7:30 PM @ Wylie.
Edna (1-4) vs. Conzales (2-3)
D.J. Yendrey and the rest of the Cowboys will look to tack on win number two for the 2008 season. Like many of the other recruits, Yendrey's Cowboys got out of the blocks slowly and are battling uphill for the rest of the year. Kickoff is set for Friday at 7:30 PM @ Gonzales.
Beaumont Ozen Justin Isadore
We are trying to contact the Ozen head coach to get an update on this week's games. Ozen had a game Tuesday night and they are set to play again on Saturday. We will bring you the update as soon as it is made available.
