Croom pleased with game week work

While a weekend off to get their legs back under them, the Mississippi State Bulldogs returned to practice today with one thing on their minds: game week.

The Bulldogs practiced inside the Palmeiro Center for an hour and half due to torrential rain that continued in the area. Head coach Sylvester Croom said there was a different attitude amongst his team and that is something he is glad to see as they prepare for their season opener at Louisiana Tech on Saturday.

"I think there is a different excitement, there is no question," Croom said. "They're rested. They say they feel good and are eager to play. The guys that have been around know it's a game week. I think we got out of it what we needed to get by giving them the weekend off."

Another reason for the Bulldogs upbeat sprit could have been from the return of offensive coordinator Woody McCorvey who returned from surgery in one week. McCorvey participated in the quarterbacks meeting on Monday and was on hand to observe practice.

Croom was glad to see McCorvey up and around hopes to have him back in full capacity as soon as possible.

"Woody and I have a good exchange," Croom said. "We're able to share ideas and we don't always agree but we have a great deal of respect. That's why we've been able to coexist during this time and hopefully always will I would think because we have a great deal of respect for each other. It sure makes my job a whole lot easier when he's here."
