Practice report: Camp closes down

The final fall scrimmage for the Missouri Tigers looked more like a spring practice. Nineteen of 22 offensive and defensive starters did not take a single snap in a workout that was geared toward identifying backups and readying younger players for action. PowerMizzou.com has the report:

*The biggest news of the day, outside of the sitting starters, may have been an injury. Chase Patton did not participate in drills. Patton has battled back problems off and on, but official word was the injury that sidelined him on Thursday was a hamstring. With the season opener just nine days away, could this change the handling of Blaine Gabbert?

"I'm looking forward to it," Gabbert said of the Illinois game. "It will be a fun game. If I play, I play. If I don't, I don't."

But it was Gabbert getting all the first-team reps on Thursday.

The results were mixed. He had a highlight with a long pass to Gahn McGaffie, but also threw an interception to Trey Hobson and was sacked a handful of times behind the mostly second-string offensive line.

*Other players who sat out the scrimmage were Jared Perry, Chase Coffman, Brian Coulter, Danario Alexander and Andy Maples.

Camp is now closed to the media. Missouri is off on Friday. Our next chance at access to the team comes on media day at 3:30 on Monday afternoon.
