Neuheisel's post practice address

The Bruins opened practice and when you talked to the coaches, all were pleased with the effort and performance. The practice could give UCLA fans reason to be as head coach Rick Neuheisel says to be "cautiously optimistic". The pace and energy were good plus the players liked getting the extra reps that the split practice affords.

As is customary for a UCLA coach, Rick Neuheisel met the press after practice.

Neuheisel: "Great practice. I am pleased with the first day. There are a million things that need to be corrected, fixed and so forth, but the energy and the enthusiasm was what I had hoped for. The ability for the coaches to get everybody out here with this split session idea, I think was very, very productive.

"We got to slow things down for our freshmen and have in essence, kind of a freshmen orientation, like it used to be, within the rules, so I am very pleased with what we have accomplished.

"There's a ton of tape, a ton of things to teach and coaches are eager to get to that so it was a very. very productive first day."

You have had awhile for this to sink in, but how does it feel for you to be out here in the powder blue as head coach?

Neuheisel: "I'm having a blast. It is a dream come true, but I kind of got to let that go and focus on the work to be done, but I'm thrilled to be here and these kids make it fun to be here because they do give everything they've got."
