Can ISU engineer more Guiton interest?
Although a Big 12 North rival is the current leader for Aldine (Tex.) Eisenhower dual-threat quarterback Kenny Guiton, Iowa State is staying within striking distance as a school that the three-star prospect would like to officially visit.
The 6-foot-2, 178-pound Guiton has made it no secret that Kansas is his favorite right now. He's unofficially visited KU (and Rice) and spoke highly of the Jayhawk program in his last Rivals.com recruiting update from a few days ago. So it's Kansas on top, but Guiton is not ready to make a decision.
"I'm still pretty wide open but Kansas is my favorite right now," Guiton said. "I want to go on visits, I know that. I'm going to try to visit Iowa State, and maybe Purdue and Kentucky. Maybe Kansas, too, even though I have been there before on my own."
Guiton said five schools have offered him a scholarship so far. Kansas, Iowa State, Rice, Houston and Northwestern are the offers that Guiton has in hand. Another set of schools has shown him solid to strong interest this spring, including Kentucky, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Kansas State, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Texas A&M.
Iowa State will likely concentrate its recruiting efforts on the academic angle to some degree. Guiton is a very good student with a 3.3 GPA and a score of 1340 on his first attempt on the SAT test. More importantly, he wants to major in civil engineering, a strength at ISU.
