Utah DT has options

In a recent Rivals.com feature, Latu Heimuli was ranked the best run stopper when compared to other top defensive tackle prospects from the Class of 2009.

The 6-foot-3, 296-pounder from Salt Lake City (Utah) Highland is almost impossible to move off the line of scrimmage.

He earned first-team all-state and first-team all-region honors last fall as a junior after totaling 52 tackles, 15 for a loss and five quarterback sacks.

"I try to be as fast off the ball and aggressive as I can," he explained. "I don't just sit back, I attack."

Heimuli also starts on the offensive line for Highland, but every college is recruiting him as a defensive tackle.

Colorado, Arizona, Washington, BYU and Utah have all extended a scholarship offer.

"I was talking to my coach and I think Washington State and Arizona State are pretty close to offering," Heimuli added. "I am pretty much wide open right now. I am planning on going to visit some colleges this summer, but I haven't decided which ones yet."

Heimuli previously told Rivals.com that Colorado is in his top six.

"I am really interested in Colorado," he confirmed Monday night. "Coach Ron Collins and Coach Brian Cabral came by my school this spring. I have talked to them about Colorado and I am interested in their program."

Heimuli said football tradition and the possibility for early playing time will be two factors that play heavily into his college decision.

"I want to make an early decision, but we'll see what happens," he added.
