Jamar Howard likes Memphis and others

One of the top wide receivers from Northern California, Jamar Howard now has a half dozen offers. Howard, 6-foot-4 210 lbs, is a big and fast receiver who can go up and get the ball in traffic.

Former Sequoias quarterback Arkelon Hall along with linemen Kindley Jacques and Larry Landry were a part of the Memphis recruit class of 2008. Does that make Memphis the favorite? "Right now Memphis is at the top of my school list but they are not number one but I like them a lot."

"I like the coaches at Memphis and they throw the ball. Arkelon Hall was my Quarterback in junior college and we got good chemistry on the field."

Other schools that are after Howard are Michigan State, Purdue, Arizona, Cal, Cincinnati, and Miami. All of which have offered except Miami.

What are the determining factors in his choice for a school? "The school I pick is going to be based on the coaches, the team, education, and who is going to get me ready to be a impact on the D-1 level and in the NFL."

"The thing I think I need to work on is every thing to be the best, you got to perfect your skill and that's what I want to do. My goals are to get my AA degree, because I will be the first male in my family to get a college degree but for my football goals are just to be the best receiver on the field, make big plays, and be a impact on the D-1 level and hopefully the NFL."

Has his former Sequoias teammates been trying to get him to come to Memphis? "Yea AK, Big Kin, and Big Larry are trying to get me down there. I talk to AK all the time. But we will just have to see were i am going to go."

Howard was rated the No. 60 wide receiver in the nation for the class of 2006 out of Cincinnati Withrow High School. He committed to Minnesota over Pittsburgh, Purdue, West Virginia and Iowa before failing to qualify academically.

Howard hopes to transfer in December with three years left to play two years of football at a program of his choice.
