Will connections pay for Florida LB?
One of Iowa State's biggest pickups in the class of 2008 was Largo (Fla.) three-star athlete Leonard Johnson. The Cyclones are back at Largo High this spring recruiting one of Johnson's teammates, and best friends, in 6-foot-3, 205-pound inside linebacker Mike Marry.
Marry reported that he holds a total of 18 offers from the likes of Arkansas, Boston College, Nebraska, Purdue, South Carolina and Stanford. Iowa State joined that list a couple weeks back. "I got a letter, then they told my coach (about the offer). I think that was about two weeks ago, but it could have been earlier than that," Marry said. "I'm very interested. I know they have a good coaching staff and good academics."
A lot of what Marry knows about Iowa State he has found out from Johnson with whom he shares a close relationship.
"We hang out a lot. We've been hanging out since we were eight," Marry said. "He says I've got to come see it for myself so that I can decide if I like it or not. He said once I get up there I won't want to leave. (A visit to ISU will be) most likely in the summertime or beginning of next season."
