New leader for top Mississippi wide receiver

Macon, Miss., wide receiver Patrick Patterson got a new scholarship offer today.

And with the arrival of a piece of paper, the names atop his leader board changed.

"LSU offered," said Patterson, who is ranked No. 3 on the Preseason Mississippi Top 25 behind Monticello running back Kendrick Hardy and Olive Branch safety Rod Woodson. "That changes things a little bit. They moved to the top of my list."

Patterson said LSU now leads Auburn and Ole Miss _ in that order _ in the race for his services. Southern Mississippi is very much in the race as well, running a close fourth.

Patterson, one of the more candid recruits around, said he has developed a good relationship with Ole Miss running backs coach Derrick Nix, who is in charge of his recruiting for the Rebels. He'll camp at Ole Miss this summer, and the Rebels are very much a factor. However, Patterson wants to see something specific out of Ole Miss.

"I want to see them win," Patterson said. "They have to win their rivalry games. If they won, I'd see them differently. I think it's that way for a lot of guys. They're real competitive. I just want to see them win."
