Spring wrap up - defense
The one consistent thing that UCLA has over the past two seasons has been the defense. There was a reason why the first order of business for Rick Neuheisel when he took over the head coach duties was retain the services of defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker.
When the previous regime hired Walker the fan base wasn't sure what to expect out of him. He came to the Bruins with the dubious distinction of being Pete Carroll's first hire at USC.
It didn't take long until UCLA fans embraced Walker. It was Walker's stated goal that UCLA will be a team that plays great defense and that is something the Bruins didn't do consistently for a very long time.
Walker's work at UCLA has helped elevate him among his peers as a coach with one of the best defensive minds, if not the best, in college football.
Fast forward to the spring of 2008 and though Walker's crew was hit hard by graduation, this unit could be the group yet, led by two defensive tackles who will be a load for most UCLA's opposition in senior Brigham Harwell and sophomore Brian Price.
