Mingo quickly picking up the game

West Monroe (Louis.) High School became somewhat of a household name when ESPN followed the team throughout the 2007 season. The Rebels had a successful year, going undefeated through the regular season before falling to Acadiana in the second round of the Class 5A state playoffs.

While his teammates started the season with more fanfare, outside linebacker Barkevious Mingo brought home the highest individual honors. He was named as a first-team all-state selection. It is especially impressive considering that he is brand new to the sport.

"I played basketball before," said the 6-foot-5, 190 pound defender. "I still play basketball but the football coach wanted me to come out. I came out my junior year and it just sort of came natural to me."
