Staying close to home important to Hawkinson

There is absolutely no question that Tanner Hawkinson was a top priority for the Kansas coaching staff in the class of 2008. Early on in his recruitment, the 6-foot-6, 230-pound tight end from McPherson (KS) High School made it be known that the Jayhawks would be extremely tough to beat for his services. After attending KU's Super Jayhawk Camp on June 16, Hawkinson offered up a verbal commitment several hours later. On Wednesday morning, he made his commitment to Kansas official by signing a Letter-of-Intent.

During his time at McPherson High School, Hawkinson, the No. 23 ranked tight end in the class, established himself as one of the most heavily recruited players in Kansas. During his junior season, he had 24 receptions for 363 yards and nine touchdowns.
