Spartans score with tough Ohio LB

SpartanMag.com has just learned that Michigan State has picked up an important commitment for the recruiting class of 2008, linebacker David Rolf of Piqua High School in Ohio. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Rolf is rated a 3-star prospect by Rivals.com and was Southwest Ohio Defensive Player of the Year this past fall.

Rolf took an official visit to East Lansing this past weekend and felt very much at home with the Spartan staff and the surroundings In addition to Michigan State, Rolf also had scholarship offers from Oregon, Vanderbilt, Utah, Air Force and a host of MAC programs.

Prior to this weekend, Rolf had already taken official visits to Vanderbilt and Ball State (his brother plays there). He had planned on visiting Utah this past weekend before the Spartans stepped to the plate with an offer. Rolf was visited this past week by Spartan Head Coach Mark Dantonio as well as Defensive Line Coach Ted Gill. Rolf had a visit scheduled for Oregon for next week, but that visit is now off.

Rolf becomes the 17th commitment to Michigan State for the class of 2008. He is also the 5th Ohio prospect to decide to play for Coach Dantonio and the Spartans
SpartanMag.com will have much more on Rolf and his commitment to Michigan State very soon
