All-American Thomas talks game and UGA
The smallest prospect in Orlando playing in the Under Armor All-American game this past weekend was Frostproof (Fla.) athlete Carlton Thomas. Thomas is committed to the University of Georgia and he will be playing against some big time athletes in Athens and he got a chance to see what that was like in this game.
"I had a great time there and it was just a great experience for me and all the other guys," said Thomas. "They really took care of us with great food, a lot of new clothes, they gave us things to do and it was a lot of fun."
Even practicing was fun according to this 5-foot-7, 172-pound Florida native.
"They said coming in that this was an All-Star game and that they were going to make it fun. They practiced us hard and were always teaching us, but they made everything about it fun. We had a good time out there and it wasn't like a normal high school practice where everything was serious."
After practicing for three days, the game took place on Saturday inside Disney's Wide World of Sports. The venue is spectacular and the talent was not too far behind.
Thomas knew going into the game that he would not be the featured back getting a lot of carries for the Red Team, but none of the others carried the ball much either.
"We only ran the ball about 10 times the whole game," he said. "With the running clock, the game was shorter, so we threw it a lot. The coaches actually told us before the game that we were going to throw the ball a lot."
