Green enjoys playoff success

While many of the nation's top football prospects have finished their high school seasons and have begun stepping things up in the recruiting process, the season continues for Rivals100 linebacker William Green who has helped lead Spain Park to its deepest playoff run in school history.

"We are excited to be this far into the playoffs. I'll be honest, I didn't expect us to get this far especially after the slow start but the offense started to pick it up and we just took off from there. But we aren't done yet we still have some football left to play," Green said. "This week we have Vestavia and we have to play our best game. They are a great team who beat us 21-0 earlier this year but to be the best you have to beat the best. We just have to play mistake free football and give everything we have for the game. We came together after the Homewood game and we want to finish strong."

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound star defender began his season at defensive end but over the course of the season moved to the position that he'll more likely play at the college level, outside linebacker.

"They still use me at defensive end but I saw more time this year at linebacker and it wasn't easy early on. I struggled getting used to it but it got better as the season went on," said Green.

Rated the No. 4 overall prospect in the state and the No. 5 outside linebacker in the nation, Green remains uncommitted and open about his recruitment and said he will continue to take things slow until his remarkable post-season run with Spain Park comes to an end.

"Not a lot has changed for me with recruiting. I've been mostly focused on the season and I wanted to wait until afterward to turn my attention there," Green said. "I'm still looking at the same teams as before. I've taken some visits but won't set my officials up until after the season. All the schools are recruiting me hard. My visits will play a big role in who I choose."
