Longhorns rout Tennessee for Legends Classic title

The No. 15 Texas Longhorns ran their record to 5-0 with a 97-78 rout of No. 7 Tennessee in the championship game of the StubHub Legends Classic Saturday night in Newark, N.J. The Longhorns were led by the career night of junior center Connor Atchley who scored 22 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Atchley was one of four Texas players to score 20 or more points in the stomping of the Volunteers. D.J. Augustin lead the way with 23 points followed by Atchley with 22 and 21 each from A.J. Abrams and Justin Mason.

The Longhorns entered Saturday nights Legends Classic championship game coming off of two straight games with 16 made three-pointers made and the hot shooting continued against No. 7 Tennessee on Saturday as the Longhorns shot 63 percent for the game including 10 of 20 from three-point land.

Texas (5-0) converted eight of their first ten shots to jump out to a 25-18 lead behind the stellar play of junior center Connor, who scored 10 points in the first six minutes of the game.

The Longhorns pushed the ball at every opportunity presented behind the play of Augustin in transition and changing of ends by Atchley, Mason and Abrams.

Trailing 25-18, Tennessee (5-1) sank three straight three-pointers and eventually took the lead 29-28, but the Longhorns had an answer for every run the Volunteers would make Saturday night.
