Longhorns, Abrams roll Arkansas-Monticello 100-52

The No.16 Texas Longhorns finished the opening round of the StubHub Legends Classic Sunday evening in Austin with a 100-52 win over division II Arkansas-Monticello. The Longhorns were led by A.J. Abrams, who scored 30 points and the play off the bench of freshman big man Alexis Wangmene. Wangmene played only 21-minutes, but scored seven points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots as well as converting all three free throw attempts.

Texas took it to the Boll Weevils (0-3) from the start racing out to an 18-6 lead behind the play of Connor Atchley, Abrams and D.J. Augustin. Atchley scored six points in the first four minutes of the game to lead the Longhorns.

With the score 18-6, Abrams took over hitting four three-pointers and scoring 14 points during a five minute span that ended up being a 19-5 run and gave the Longhorns a 37-11 lead.

The Boll Weevils failed to score the last 7:45 of the first half against the Texas 2-3 zone and the Longhorns continued to put the ball in the basket taking a 49-11 lead into the half.

Arkansas-Monticello connected on just three of 33 first half field goal attempts and committed more turnovers, 12, in the opening half than points scored.
