Tech Tips Off at 11

The Red Raiders host the Lumberjacks of Stephen F. Austin in an 11am tip off. The Tech roster is one short with the departure of Decensae White, and the Raiders continue to look for a second reliable scoring option to supplement the steady Martin Zeno.

Stephen F. Austin
The Lumberjacks are led by a pair of their four juniors and get support from three seniors, a pair of sophomores, and six freshman. A forward and guard of the junior class lead the charge as they are the leading scorers from last season.

Matt Kingsley, a 6-foot-9, 225 pound junior, averaged 12.6 points per game and 4.7 rebounds last season in only 22 minutes of play. He shoots it well from the field, last season hitting 51.4% of his 253 field goal attempts, and he tends to shoot it close to the basket. From the arc he was 1-of-4. Kingsley is a good free throw shooter, knocking down 104-of-130 attempts last year for an .800 clip.

Defense: Kingsley is a good driver close to the basket and will stick the catch-and-shoot jumper. He does not tend to take bad shots. He is an ineffective passer. The Raiders must force him to accept the ball out of his range, or deny him the ball completely inside. A quick double team will bother him and his passes are suspect. Ideally a big player like Esmir Rizvic would be a tough matchup for Kingsley inside, though if Kingsley receives the ball in a favorable position the defense will be trouble. Damir Suljagic has done an admirable job defensively after two games, and Kingsley will be his toughest test to date.
