Bruins face huge challenges today

The battered and injury riddled Bruins face an uphill battle today when they take on the Arizona State Sun Devils at the Rose Bowl. This game would be a tall task for a healthy UCLA team but the facts are the Bruins are down their first two quarterbacks, one running back is out, while others are banged up. Add into the equation the wide receivers are also battered and bruised then the picture looks bleak indeed.

Even the most optimistic Don Quixote type would think that this quest for a victory is akin to reaching that unreachable star. The quest that the Man from La Mancha so desired.

The Sun Devils lead all country's division one schools in time of possession so that will test a UCLA's defense that has already been working overtime.

Arizona State is near the top of Pac 10 conference in almost every category offensively and defensively that counts.

The Sun Devils are second in scoring offense and scoring defense. They are second in pass defense and third in pass offense. They are second in offensive first downs, first in red zone offense; second in turnover margin and their list of accomplishments go on and on.

Victory does appear to be the impossible dream.

For UCLA to win this game Don Quixote must live. The Bruins must put forth an effort that surpasses the herculean effort against USC a year ago.
