Quick hits from NC State's exhibition win over Barton

Quick hits and notes from NC State's 94-57 exhibition win over Barton College Thursday evening at the RBC Center.

Play of the game

Probably the most memorable portion of Thursday night's win was freshman big man J.J. Hickson taking the feed from sophomore forward Dennis Horner on the fast break and finishing with a two-handed dunk over Barton's Mike Flowers. The only negative on the highlight worthy clip was Hickson missed his free throw for the three-point play opportunity.

Player of the game

Sophomore forward Brandon Costner was feeling it Thursday and finished with a game-high 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including 3 of 6 beyond the arc and 5 of 6 from the line. He also added six rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Easy win

As expected, NC State had no problems dusting off Barton. Halfway through the first half State was up 22-4. Barton's lone lead came on their opening basket, but they needed a late three-pointer from Brandon Raffel with 39 seconds left to avoid a 40-point defeat.

Freshmen debut

Coach Sidney Lowe said after the game that the highly-touted Hickson admitted he was rushing the action when he came in after the first official timeout. Hickson and sophomore guard Trevor Ferguson were the first two players off the bench. Hickson had his first shot attempt blocked and he was 5-of-10 shooting and 1 for 2 from the line for 11 points to go with five rebounds and three steals in 17 minutes.
