Tigers start to plan without Pig

In the waning minutes of the fourth quarter against Iowa State, the Missouri Tigers lost perhaps their most valuable player of the season. Senior safety and team captain Pig Brown went down with a torn Achilles' tendon and was lost for the season.

In Brown's absence, the Tigers will start Justin Garrett alongside William Moore at safety. Pinkel said Garrett is anticipated to return to the lineup this week after missing the Iowa State game with a hyper extended elbow. Del Howard will likely serve as the third safety. In addition, Mizzou is examining some personnel moves.

"We had him on the line of scrimmage a lot in our nickel defense where he could be involved in run support as well as the pass," Pinkel said. "We're just contemplating what we're going to do at the other safety spot. We have Kevin Rutland who we've been working with at safety and also at corner and we're also looking possibly at Hardy Ricks. We have to make a little bit of an adjustment."

As important as what they've lost on the field, Mizzou has lost one of its locker room leaders. Pinkel said Brown will be on the sidelines for the rest of the Tigers' games this season.
