Josh Barrett Q&A

Senior free safety Josh Barrett came into the 2007 season as the program's leading returning tackler but a pectoral muscle issue kept him from playing to his expcectations early on. After an excellent six tackle, two pass breakup game against Washington, Barrett appears to be back on track. We spoke with him following a recent practice.

You had a big game last week after not playing up to your own expectations earlier this season. A lot of that coach Erickson attributed to your pectoral issue. How much did that affect you out there?

"It was good getting out there and playing well and really just feeling well. It's amazing how when you're feeling healthy and you're prepared, it shows on Saturdays. "I look at it as, when I turn on the film, when I was watching, it felt as though the first couple of games it wasn't me out there. I figured it was something emotional or something mental going on. I really tried to trick myself into saying I'm OK physically, I can get through this, I've gotten through things in the past but that just wasn't the case."

How much of an issue was wanting to show that you don't have a problem with being injury prone or a concern over a perception of that considering you have aspirations to play football at the professional level?
