Looking to cure the third-quarter blues
Auburn's offense has had its ups and downs this season. But most of the downs have come right after halftime.
The Tigers have scored 194 points this season but only 27 (13.9 percent) have come in the third quarter. In SEC games, AU has scored just 10 third-quarter points.
The third quarter problems were in full effect against LSU as AU was outgained 183-458 yards and outscored 6-0.
"In the third quarter, we shut it down," said AU offensive coordinator Al Borges. "That hurt us. We needed a drive in the third quarter and didn't get it."
Auburn's playcalling didn't appear to turn conservative. Of 14 third quarter plays against LSU, AU attempted to pass on nine and run on five. The execution, however, dropped off dramatically.
